Firsts

I thought it appropriate to have my first blog post about my first child on the eve of her 11th birthday (okay, 11th isn't first, but it has two ones...right?). Anyway..........

Tomorrow is Anna's birthday. Eleven. I cannot believe how the time has flown. I still remember the dinner I ate exactly 11 years ago today. Hamburger Helper lasagna, wheat bread, green beans, and grape Koolaid. Sounds really nasty now..... I think I understand why Anna wanted out that night!
Anna was born, face up with eyes wide, full of curiosity. She has grown up, continuing that trend, wanting to know everything about everything. She constantly has her nose in a book, loves to draw, loves to write, and takes acting classes. She is creative and resourceful, constantly planning parties and bake sales. She often exhausts me with all of her endeavors because "No" is not a word in her vocabulary. Gone are the days of Polly Pockets, sidewalk chalk, and training wheels. This birthday has been filled with clothes, cash, a bigger bike, and a video camera. As scared as I am to have Anna grow into a teenager, I am excited to see what the next few years bring for her.
Happy Birthday to my sweet daughter, the one that made me a Mommy for the first time.

  2. I can't believe Anna is 11!! I still remember what I was wearing the day she was born. Jeans, a yellow and blue sweatshirt and my fingernails were painted orange for some reason. I was in love with Anna before she was even born but when she came into the world my heart changed. My deep, unconditional love for her made me want to become a mother some day. As you know, nothing compares or can truly describe motherhood. Thank you Anna!! I love you dearly.

  3. I have some pretty vivid memories of that day too and any memory is good for me these days. I remember driving down the canyon from Park City and getting your message that you were in labor. And I remember being at the hospital, your poor mother's face at having to watch her daughter work so hard, sweet Aunt Heather coming out to announce "It's a girl!", and then of course the most beautiful little baby girl, Anna! Here's to becoming a mother and to your sweet little girl on her 11th birthday.
